August 2007

Dear Seton Parents,

We hope you have all had a wonderful summer!  We also hope that all of our students are getting excited about the beginning of a new school year.  Our year will once again start with a Welcome Back Ice Cream Social, hosted by the Home & School Executive Team.  This is a great time for you to connect with those you have not seen over the summer; as well as, a wonderful time to meet new families, students and teachers.

The Home & School Executive Team members for the 2007-2008 school year are as follows:

The Home & School Association is a combined effort comprised of all parents, students and staff of Seton Elementary, along with our Executive Team.  The association works along side the teachers and staff to enrich the overall educational experience that the students receive at Seton Catholic Elementary School.  There are various functions throughout the school year that Home & School is responsible for coordinating and/or funding.  These activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Welcome Back Ice Cream Social
  • School Directory
  • Book Fairs (Fall and Spring) –proceeds benefit East/West libraries
  • Holiday Parties (All Saints, Christmas and Valentine’s Day)
  • Fundraisers
  • Market Day in conjunction with Youth Ministry
  • Catholic Schools Week
  • Grandparents Day
  • Staff Appreciation Week
  • Spring Picnic
  • School Carnival
  • Uniform Exchange Closet
  • Spirit Wear Sales
  • School Skates
  • Box Tops for Education
  • 6th Grade “class” shirts
  • Classroom Allotments for all teachers
  • Convocations
  • Field Trips (H&S pays $7 per student per year, gas for bus and driver expense)
  • Misc. Playground Equipment (balls, hula-hoops, jump ropes, etc)
  • Library Expenses (outside of Book fair profits) for Software, Awards, etc
  • 5th & 6th Grade Science Projects (boards, kits)
  • Computer Hardware and Software
  • Misc. Supplies (bulletin board paper, H&S Office Supplies)
  • End of Year Projects (2006-2007 playground update on West campus)

The H&S Association is not funded from the school budget.  It is strictly funded by the efforts of students and parents taking part in Fundraisers.  Last year’s Walk-A-Thon was extremely successful!  We met and exceeded our goal, thus eliminating the need for additional fundraisers throughout the year.  The H&S Executive Team will begin planning our 2007 Walk-A-Thon at our next meeting on Tuesday, September 11th.  If you have any suggestions regarding the Walk-A-Thon, we would love to hear from you.

Also, there are many opportunities to get involved this year!  We are currently looking for people to chair the following committees:  East Bldg Book Fair, Room Parents/Holiday Parties, Market Day (with Mary Williams of Youth Ministry), Grandparents Day, Box Tops, School Carnival, and Spring Picnic.  Grab a friend, get them to co-chair and get involved!!  Sign up’s will be available at the Ice Cream Social.

We would like to thank each of you for all of your support.  Without the generous support of our teachers, parents and students, we would not be able to provide all of the exciting activities mentioned above.  It is because of you that Seton Catholic Elementary School is such a wonderful place to be!

Thank you and hope to see you at the Ice Cream Social!!
